Alpine

Alpine was a French manufacturer of racing and sports cars that used rear mounted Renault engines. The founder of Alpine, Jean Redele, was originally a Dieppe garage proprietor, who gained success in one of the few French cars produced just after the Second World War.

The Dieppe factory is the producer of Renault Sport models that are sold worldwide. This factory was the original Alpine factory that Renault gained when they aquired the Alpine brand in 1973. In October 2007, Patrick Blain, Renault’s marketing director, revealed that there are plans for several sports cars in Renault’s future lineup, but warned that the first models wouldn’t be available till after 2010. Blain confirmed that future cars will be under the Alpine brand, and described it as being a “radical sports car” and not just a sports version of a regular model.

In France there is a large network of Alpine enthusiast clubs and clubs exist in countries across the world including the UK, USA, Australia and Japan.
