Donkervoort
Donkervoort Automobiles Ltd is a Dutch manufacturer of sports cars, founded in 1978 by Joop Donkervoort. The company was originally located in a small shed in Tienhoven. Several years later, the company moved to a larger location in Donkervoort Loosdrecht, where many cars were built. In 2000, a completely new business was achieved in Lelystad, where all cars to date are built from the chassis the smallest detail on each vehicle.
Modern, or “open” Donkenvoorts still show similarities with the original inspiration, the Lotus Seven. The ultra lightweight car combined with impressive power and good handling makes the Donkervoort unique in it’s market.
In 1996, an agreement was reached for Audi to supply the engines used in Donkervoorts. Previously Ford engines had been used.
In 2007, the manufacturer introduced the first closed Donkenvoort at the Geneva Motor Show, the Donkervoort D8 GT. The D8 GT went into production in early 2008, but Open Donkervoorts are still in production for enthusiasts.
